Visa application guidelines for short visits


Tourist Visa & Transit Visa

With affect from 1st January 2012 all holiday travellers to Sri Lanka must have VISA for entering to Sri Lanka. Please visit www.eta.gov.lk for more information.
 
From 1st January 2012 travellers making short a visit (even less than 30 days) to Sri Lanka required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization. (ETA)
 
The ETA is initially limited to a 30 days stay in Sri Lanka from the date of arrival although, it may be extended for up to 90 days from the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka (www immigration.gov.lk)
 
If there are any difficulties in applying ETA system or any tourist who wishes to obtain Tourist visa from the Embassy can obtain visa by the post or in person at the Embassy visa counter. (This visa will be granted for a maximum period of 90 days)
 
Transit visa up to 48 hours currently issued free of charge (but must have ETA reference number)
 
Tourist visa: if applying direct through ETA website the fee is 40$ for The Netherlands passport, Acknowledgement will be received within 24 hours and confirmation will be received within 3 working days. It will be valid for 30 days from the date you enter to the country.



REQUIREMENTS
 
1. Duly completed visa application  
2. Two recent passport size photographs.  
3. Valid passport with at least one unused visa page (passport should be valid for six months from the date you arrive in Sri Lanka).
4. Relevant visa fees
5. If documents are sent by post visa fees should be sent only by postal order or bank draft in favour of Sri Lanka Embassy. (Private cheques will not be accepted)
6. If the passport and documents are to be returned by post, a self addressed prepaid/stamped special delivery envelope to the weight of 2kg along with the application form  should be provided. The special delivery cover should not be stamped with a postage printout issued by the post office for same day use. Applications sent without prepaid special delivery cover/ or postage will be retained until the applicant collects it personally.
7. Proof of the availability of sufficient funds for the entire stay in Sri Lanka - A letter of guarantee from a bank or the latest bank statement should be produced. A minimum of US $15 per day for expenditure.
8. Apart from Dutch Passport holders others should produce valid stay permit in The Netherlands.

TIME TAKEN TO PROCESS THE VISA APPLICATION

 
Visa application can be submitted Monday to Friday 10.00am to 01.00pm.
 
Issuing visa after 3 working days between 10.00am to 01.00pm.
 
 BUSINESS VISA

 

Notice is hereby given that the on line Business ETA facility is opened to potential applicants in addition to the existing facility of obtaining Business ETA from Sri Lanka Overseas Missions and the Head Office of the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo.

Notice is hereby given that the on line Business ETA facility is opened to potential applicants in addition to the existing facility of obtaining Business ETA from Sri Lanka Overseas Missions and the Head Office of the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo. 

This Mission can issue multiple entry business visa valid  period of up to 3 months for investors/businessmen, provided that they can prove that they are required to visit Sri Lanka several times with the prior approval of the Controller General, Immigration and Emigration (CG, I&E) Or the applicant should submit a letter recommending issuance of one year Multiple Entry Visa from the Sri Lankan Government or any Government related organization.
 
Other Documents should be submitted as follows:
 
• A letter from the company or organization in the Netherlands recommending the issuance of one year multiple entry business visa and giving details of the status of the applicant, nature of business,duration of stay, availability of funds, and details of the party in Sri Lanka with whom the business is to be conducted.
•  A letter from the company/organisation in Sri Lanka recommending the issuance of one year multiple entry business visa.
• Duly completed visa application
