Media Release-Sri Lanka Embassy in The Netherlands commences work at its new location in The Hague in the New Year – 2018
|01 Jan 2018|
The Sri Lanka Embassy in The Netherlands, which had been established 25 years ago at Jacob de Graefflaan 2, 2517 JM, The Hague was relocated to a more spacious building, conveniently situated with easy access to public transport in a prestigious area of The Hague and in close proximity to the Peace Palace at the following address, with effect from 1st January 2018;
2585 AM, Den Haag
The relocation of the Mission was a long overdue priority as the former Chancery building was congested and in a poor state of repair, with limited facilities for the public and was no longer fit for the purpose of serving as the Chancery.
Official work at the new Embassy premises commenced on 1st January 2018, with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to The Netherlands, H.E. Mr. A.M.J. Sadiq in the presence of all staff members. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, and the observance of two minutes silence to commemorate the national heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.
Thereafter, the Ambassador administered the Oath of Public Service to the members of the staff and delivered a brief speech in which he highlighted the importance of providing a courteous and efficient service to members of the Sri Lankan community in The Netherlands, as well as to all visitors to the Mission. He also urged the staff to rededicate themselves to implement the Government’s programme of work for a peaceful and prosperous future for all Sri Lankans.
